November 8, 2007
The Fulbright Program recently announced the complete list of colleges and universities that produced the most 2007-08 U.S. Fulbright Fellows. Three Rollins alumni won Fulbright awards for 2007-08. Alison Schill (Class of 2007), Elizabeth Buckley (Class of 2007), and Brooke Harbaugh (Class of 2006), have all been awarded one-year Fulbright Grants. Rollins College is the only Florida school listed in the Carnegie category of Master’s Colleges and Universities. Only seven Florida schools produced U.S. Fulbright Fellows in the 2007-08 academic year.
“We are very pleased that these graduates will have the opportunity to apply their Rollins education in this prestigious international program,” said Rollins president Lewis Duncan.
Under the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, almost 1,500 American students in more than 100 different fields of study have been offered grants to study, teach English, and conduct research in more than 125 countries throughout the world beginning this fall. The Program equips future American leaders with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly global environment by providing funding for one academic year of study, research or assistant teaching abroad.
Since its inception in 1946, the Program has provided approximately 290,000 participants worldwide with the opportunity to observe each others’ political, economic and cultural institutions, exchange ideas and embark on joint ventures of importance to the general welfare of the world’s inhabitants. In the past 61 years, almost 42,000 students from the United States have benefited from the Fulbright experience. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Students receiving awards for this academic year applied through 570 colleges or universities. Lists of Fulbright recipients are available at: www.fulbrightonline.org.
