In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Fred Rogers' birthday, people across the country wore sweaters and remembered some of the lessons Rogers taught.
To honor Fred's memory and his lifelong commitment to service, Rollins students proclaimed Thursday, March 20 "Fred Rogers Day at Rollins College" and asked the Rollins community to wear a sweater or their favorite Rollins sweatshirt.
Family Communications, Inc. (producer of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood) named March 20 "Won't You Wear A Sweater?" Day. People across the U.S. were asked to wear a sweater that day and think about being a caring neighbor.

Students at Winter Park High School (WPHS) wore their sweatshirts and distributed "Won't you be my neighbor?" stickers. Students in WPHS Student Government Association held a sweater drive and helped collect more than 300 sweaters for the Orlando Rescue Mission.

Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, participated in “Won’t You Wear a Sweater?" Day in honor of Fred Rogers. Two students and Roanoke College President Michael Creed Maxey (wearing a Roanoke sweatshirt with his bow tie) show their support. Roanoke College bestowed Fred Rogers with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (awarded posthumously) in 2003.

The Fred Rogers Center at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, celebrated Fred Rogers’ 80th birthday and 40th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood by wearing sweaters on March 19. There to help celebrate his birthday by signing a birthday banner were: (sitting left to right) Rogers Center Fellow Roberta Schomburg, Chancellor of Saint Vincent College Archabbot Douglas R. Nowicki and Executive Director of Rogers Center Bill Isler Associate Director of Rogers Center Rita Catalano, (back left to right) Administrative Assistant to Rogers Center Cindy Scarpo, Rogers Center Archivist David Kelly, Rogers Center Archivist Assistant Emily Uhrin, Student Assistant Melissa Evans, Coordinator of Early Learning Professional Development Project Wanda Reynolds and Rogers Center Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor of Education Veronica Ent. Saint Vincent College presented Fred Rogers with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in 1973.
