Best-Selling Author and Journalist Frank Rich to Visit Rollins as Part of 20th Anniversary of MLS Program
March 29, 2008
The New York Times journalist and best-selling author Frank Rich will visit Rollins College in April. His talk, which is free and open to the public, will be held Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alfond Sports Center. His visit will highlight the 20th anniversary of Rollins College Hamilton Holt School’s Master of Liberal Studies (MLS) program. Rich will talk about “Art, Culture and Politics.” Rich’s popular weekly column crosses politics with popular culture.
Rollins is one of a select group of institutions that offers a graduate degree in liberal studies. “Rich’s commentaries on politics, culture and the arts fit well in with the MLS program’s interdisciplinary approach to learning,” said Bob Smither, Rollins psychology professor and former dean of the Hamilton Holt School.
Rich will sign books following the event. His latest book is "The Greatest Story Ever Sold: The Decline and Fall of Truth from 9/11 to Katrina." He comes to Rollins as a Thomas P. Johnson Distinguished Visiting Scholar.
The interdisciplinary MLS program, introduced in 1987, offers courses from multiple branches of learning, including philosophy, literature, history and social science. The program has more than 200 alumni. “For two decades now, the MLS program has provided personal enrichment and professional enhancement for members of the Central Florida community who want to expand their intellectual horizons at the graduate level,” said Smither.
