It's over, already ?
April 27, 2009
Even if I had the power to go anywhere I desired for the rest of my college life, I would still choose not to leave Rollins. The brilliant and ever-welcoming professors, excellent quality of classes, great weather, tons of opportunities, the Mediterranean style architecture and the stunning Lake Virginia behind the library, are only some of the many things that make Rollins such a great place. I have thoroughly enjoyed my freshmen year here; personally the two semesters flew by like it was a couple of months.
I have never had the opportunity to excel so much in my life. From being completely immersed into a new language and culture while still celebrating all the festivals I used to celebrate back home, from having new brothers in a fraternity to gaining an insight to many different concepts, principles, theories, view points and facts inside the classroom; Rollins has completely changed my life.
DESI club celebrating Holi
One of the greatest concerns I had before I finally decided to come to Rollins was regarding my family, friends and the festivals that I had back home. Now, when I look back I am extremely glad that I chose Rollins because everyone is like family here. I have made some lifelong friends and I still manage to celebrate Hindu festivals like Diwali (Tihar) and Holi. Diwali and Holi were two of the biggest events organized by the Desi Club- (A club dedicated to diversity which organizes events that celebrate South Asian culture, tradition and festivals here at Rollins). This year, the Desi Club organized “Holi” on Friday, April 3. Holi is a Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal, India and other South Asian Hindu countries and it is also known as the festival of colors. Holi signifies the arrival of the colorful and cheerful spring season.
There is something for everybody at Rollins. If one isn’t satisfied with what the college provides then a student can simply start a new organization or club on campus and what’s wonderful is that the school will go out of its way to help you get funded. There are many ways one can give back to the community through programs like Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life. I volunteered for both of them through the X Club.

The mission of Rollins is to make its students global citizens and responsible leaders. So a lot of effort is put into ensuring that the students are actively involved in the community along with performing brilliantly inside the classroom.
To attain this goal at Rollins, every student has to complete certain General Education requirements that include learning and practicing a foreign language (F), cultural studies (C) and values (V). Along with such requirements, the Rollins Study Abroad Program is ranked amongst the top 20 colleges and universities according to the Institute of International Education. Recently, more than 200 students attended an orientation program to prepare for their summer/fall field studies. They will be travelling to 15 countries. Provost Roger Casey asked the students to “bring back a knowledge base that will change your life forever.”
So all in all, with all that has been happening it’s hard to believe that it’s almost summer. Today is the last day of classes and after the hectic week of finals, I will miss everyone until next year, or rather the next semester.

| More about Aditya... From a completely different cultural, religious and social setting, Aditya (Adi) comes from Nepal, the Himalayan Kingdom. Having almost lived his entire life in Kathmandu, he is overwhelmed by his positive experiences so far in a new country.
Adi is an International Cornell Scholar who is interested in physics, math and economics but is currently not sure what he would want to major in. Adi is a member of Desi Club and is seeking to join various other clubs like, The Model UN. In the past, as the president of Awareness Club, Adi organized a general health camp in a rural part of Nepal treating more than 700 patients. He was also a part of the Khaptad Camp organized by SHF, Nepal.
