Rollins To Create Two Murals For the Community
February 28, 2007
Through the support of the Summer Scholarship Program and the Office of Community Engagement, Rollins College will be able to serve two deserving community partners/non-profit organizations in Central Florida through a mural project to be completed during the summer of 2007.
Through the financial support of the Office of Community Engagement, the Summer Scholarship Program and the Young Scholars Collective, Associate Professor of Art Rachel Simmons and Rollins College studio major Meghan Medina will lead a team of artists to create community murals.
Rollins College artists hope to provide a valuable service to two community partners/non-profit organizations in Central Florida who will benefit from a public mural. Through this project, the participating artists hope to educate community members in Central Florida regarding the positive impact that art can have the lives of its citizens.
This service-learning project aims to enhance the students' and faculty member's educational exchange, supplementing and supporting the Rollins academic curriculum, while engaging the surrounding community in a lasting and meaningful way.
