“When Morgan Creek sent me the script, my first thought was to film at Rollins,” said Executive Producer Wayne Morris. “The school is used as the canvas and truly plays a role in this movie.”

Sydney White is a modern retelling of Snow White about a tomboy college freshman who pledges her late mother's once-dignified sorority. But after discovering that today's sisterhood is not what it used to be, Sydney finds her new home away from home with seven outcasts. With the help of her socially challenged new friends, she will take on the reigning campus queen to attempt to transform the school's misguided social hierarchy. The movie is directed by Joe Nussbaum and stars Amanda Bynes, Sarah Paxton, Matt Long and John Schneider.

07sydney02.jpgIt was hard to miss the lights, equipment, props and frequent celebrity sightings while the Sydney White film crew made Rollins College its home during the weeks of February 19 through 23 and March 12 through 16.

From rows of trailers and wardrobe racks in the Hauck Hall parking lot to the procession of semi trucks parked down Holt Avenue, no one could ignore the fact that a movie crew was in town. Some Rollins faculty, staff and students were even featured as extras in the movie.

Morris lives in Central Florida and is trying to bring more feature film projects to the area. “This area is such a great underutilized resource,” Morris said. More than 95 percent of the crew members working on Sydney White are Central Floridians.
